2nd Annual Taste of the County, Food and Entertainment Festival Benefiting Healthcare - Event Details

Summer 2023

19th Annual Golf Tournament - TBD

Hospital Week is a nationwide event that highlights the tireless work of doctors, nurses, social workers, and other clinical staff. The Foundation has enjoyed partnering with San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC), community leaders, and local organizations to thank these heroes each year. We were honored to be invited by SMMC to cohost this year’s event, Hospital Week: Back to the Future - Renew, Refresh, Reconnect, and together with the event committee and several volunteers we created an unforgettable week-long celebration at 5 different clinic sites. The festivities included gift bags and a carnival at each location. Hospital and clinic staff were treated to a photo op with a replica of the Back to the Future DeLorean time machine and everyone enjoyed a day of fun, good food, and a great playlist of 80s hits!

Every year SMCHF hosts its Annual Golf Tournament which is attended by close to 200 people. Getting together for a day on the green, attendees help raise funds for the critical needs of the hospital. Each player gets a round of golf, a gift and amenities bag, meals, and prizes in our on-course games including the $10,000 Putt and Million Dollar Shot. Past tournaments brought in a chance to win cash and a new BMW, and last year players took home an OLED 55” TV, Oculus VR headset, spa experiences, bottles of wine, and more. It’s just one fantastic reason to come out and play for a great cause!

In October 2021, the Foundation hosted its first annual Taste of the County. Our goal was to create a food and entertainment event to celebrate the resilience of healthcare staff, county citizens, and merchants through these unique times; something that the community could enjoy year after year while bringing awareness to medical programs and vital county needs. Attended by families, business owners, community and government leaders, and foodies from all over the Bay Area, there was something for everyone. Over 10,000 samples of food were served by local restaurants, four community organizations participated, and three entertainment acts performed.100% of event proceeds went directly to support our programs. See the event gallery here!

We were overjoyed to partner with fellow 501(c)(3) Help a Mother Out to give free ELO Diapers to families in need. 95,000 diapers were given to over 400 San Mateo County families. We are so thankful to all the volunteers from the Supporter Family, HAMO, and the community that showed up to help county mothers.

Dr. Grace Hassid, San Mateo County’s Infection Control Officer, joined the Foundation and co-host Sia Glafkides for a free informative COVID-19 webinar. During the program, Dr. Hassid shared best practices to stay healthy during the pandemic, what employers can do to safely plan a future reopening, what objects or actions may spread contagion, and more.

On December 9, 2021, San Mateo Medical Center held a grand opening of their Physical Rehabilitation Gym, funded by San Mateo County Health Foundation through donations from the community. The event was attended by SMCHF donors, board members, and hospital staff. The center offers patients a variety of rehabilitation services with a goal of bringing people to their highest level of practical functioning through efficient delivery of evidenced based interdisciplinary practices. The new space features wide walkways and a better equipped wheelchair accessible audiology room. SMCHF is proud that we could play a part in opening this brand-new gym.

For over 30 years, San Mateo Medical Center and the Golden Gate Harley Owners Group have had a tradition of hosting an annual holiday toy drive. We are thrilled to support and be part of this festive event. For one day each year during the holidays, Harley bikes as far as the eye can see fill the hospital parking lot. Last year, toys were donated courtesy of the GG HOGs, SMMC Volunteers, Lily Jurow, and our wonderful supporter family.
