BUNDLE OF JOY

You can support pregnant or new mothers in need by donating to our Bundle of Joy program. A pack of onesies can be purchased for as little as $10. $100 can fill entire care bags with supplies.

Welcoming a new baby to the family is a joyous occasion, but for for new parents who are living at or below the Federal Poverty Level (FPL), this time can be quite unsettling and even daunting from a financial perspective. San Mateo County Health Foundation in partnership with San Mateo Medical Center launched the Bundle of Joy Program in 2010 to assist new parents as they begin the journey of starting or adding to their family.

The Bundle of Joy Program is a three-phase program designed to aid these families in a comprehensive manner.

Phase One begins when the expectant mother has her first prenatal appointment at one of San Medical Center’s OB/GYN clinics. It is at that first appointment she receives a copy of “Prenatal Care Lasts a Lifetime” written by Tracy Butler, CNM and Mary Ramirez, NP. This prenatal guide, written in both English and Spanish, details what the pregnant mother can expect before and after the baby is born.

Phase Two begins when the mother brings the newborn in for their first baby wellness exam at one of San Mateo Medical Center’s five Pediatric Clinics. At the conclusion of the wellness exam the new mother is presented with a reusable bag filled with diapers, clothing, toys, and other essential baby items. You can help us purchase these items by donating above.

At the end of the baby’s wellness exam, the new mother can register for Phase Three of the program – Newborn Care 101. Taking care of a newborn can be one of the most special experiences for a new mom. At the same time, she can feel at a loss about how to care for her child. Newborn Care 101 teaches the basics of care such as why a baby cries, crib safety, feeding and nutrition, and the importance of wellness appointments.

We express our gratitude to the many individuals and organizations that have assisted families in need as they begin their journey to becoming parents. Support this program further by donating and following our social media for updates. Thank you.
