Saving Lives

Women’s Breast Health

Over 5000 mammograms are provided for underserved women each year at San Mateo Medical Center. Ultrasound is commonly used after a suspicious mammogram. San Mateo Medical Center currently provided about 1000 breast ultrasounds this year. Cancers can be tricky to detect. With a 98% survival rate with early detection (dropping to 27% with late detection), we aim to ensure that all women have most favorable outcomes, with the goal of living healthy and productive lives. Optimizing technology for breast health will increase access, allowing SMMC to meet rising demands. It will also ensure the most detailed and accurate results for women, increasing survival rates from this very common form of cancer.
